Inspiring People 3

The story of a little boy from Michigan is another “unwrapped gift” that I can carry in my heart.

I had sent the book to his family because I had read in his family’s blog that their little, sweet, six year old boy had gone from the picture of health one christmas, to being in a hospital bed in their family room, paralyzed by a brain tumor, the next.  They mentioned that all they could do to communicate to him that they were at his bedside, was to sing and read to him, which they did all waking hours.  I thought surely my book would make a nice read aloud — especially at christmas — and especially given the circumstances that this book’s life purpose was to raise funds for a cure for his disease.  So I sent the book.  All I can tell you is that this family defies description.  Their faith, their strength, their updates became as important as Sunday church to me.  With all that they had going on, I never expected a call from his family.  I simply sent the book to show I cared.  But, despite all that she had going on, his mom called me.  Not only did she call to say thank you for the book but to tell me that her son loved the spriitelees so much, he was wiggling his arms and legs to ask her to read it again.  She cried.  I cried.  It allowed me to share his story at a church talk I was giving and I had record book sales.
This sweet little boy lost his fight with his tumor this year.  Untold numbers of people were changed by his life and his spirit.  I consider myself most fortunate to be one of them.
