Spark Kindness Enterprises
Why “Spark Kindness Enterprises”?
Because sharing kindness is sharing light.
We know little bursts of light, sparks, can add up to a huge flame.
How nice to view children's acts of kindness as light sparks. Therefore, as a mother of young children, I believe in fostering, in children at an early age, the desire to share their inner light of goodness, helping them to understand and respect the importance and power of small acts and gestures.
The company's mission through our award winning characters, The Spriitelees™ is to:
- Create and deliver products that inspire and motivate children to spark kindness (put the i into kind)
- To teach children “the secret” that when we give to others – we really give to ourselves, and
- To practice what we preach by donating profits, sometimes as much as 100%, to important children’s causes.
How we define success for our company?
We have succeeded each time:
- we make a child or parent laugh
- our products are used in classrooms or homes for enforcing key values
- a new Sparktificate is earned
- we learn that our products have brightened the world with a little extra kindness
Why do you donate 100% of your profits on your first book to children’s brain tumor research?
I feel strongly that you can’t moralize to children if you aren’t willing to show your own commitment to this way of being. Donating the profits to an important children’s cause fit with the moral of the story and it also fit with my own personal motivation to do something creative with my time and talents. I was hopeful that I might raise a little money to help someone I care for by helping her young child.
I firmly believe that my commitment to help this cause will ultimately help me generate a successful brand in this world, built on the principles of kindness and sharing.
I may not be able to donate 100% of profits on every product, but as I launch additional products I intend to help other important children’s causes such as autism, rhett’s syndrome and juvenile diabetes. Why these causes? Because I am connected to people whose lives are deeply affected by these awful diagnoses and I would like to find a small way to help.
I’ve been asked numerous times, Marcia if you are donating all the profits from this first book, what is in it for you?
The answer to that one is easy. I am able to show my children how to be a person for others. I am not just moralizing or preaching. I am getting out of my own way and doing it.
I think teaching by example is the strongest way to get a message across. Therefore, I know this company of mine is helping me raise three considerate, spirited children. In fact, last fall, my four year old threw his arms around me as I was leaving for an all-weekend book event and he said "mommy, I am so very glad you are helping children with brain tumors this weekend. I love you."
If the only thing I accomplish with this work is that, I will have succeeded in parenting in one very important way. The rest is gravy.
